    Nor Given in Marriage- New Age Empty Nor Given in Marriage- New Age

    Post  cladius Tue Mar 27, 2012 3:18 pm

    Hello Dr. B. In Luke 20:34-35 Jesus said, "34-And Jesus answering said to them, `The sons of this age do marry and are given in marriage,

    Luk 20:35 but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they given in marriage;

    36-for neither are they able to die any more -- for they are like messengers -- and they are sons of God, being sons of the rising again.

    What does The Lord meant when He said "neither marry, nor given in marriage?" and was He talking about the new age as in post AD 70? And any other info. will be appreciated.

    thank you

    Hi Clad....

    Great question. The short answer is that as Angels are not carbon based earthly creations like we are, who are subject to physical demise, then they do not need to procreate like we do because we keep dying. When we are resurrected, it is to a heavenly physicality on the spiritual level and not carbon based earthly.The bigger picture here in this passage, is that the Lord is saying that in the resurrection, we will be angel-like relative to angelic bodies. (Not, that we "become" angels). Angels do have bodies, but they are not carbon based. They are "physical" but heavenly spiritual/physicality.

    Thank You. "luke 20:35"but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they give in marriage." Is that basically saying we are not going to be getting married in heaven? That is what I always thought it meant. But now being a preterist what about verse 35 that says, "Worthy to obtain that age," what age? The messianic age?

    thank you,

    Right, Clad.... It is saying that there is no marriage in heaven because that is an earthly institution. The bigger part is the info on individual physicality that defines the resurrected state, that Christ is referring to here. The "age to come" is a reference to the post AD 70 presence of Christ ruling here in the spiritual realm. This is consistent with what he spoke to about "that age" in Mtt. 13:36-43 Also see Paul in 1 Cor. 10:11.
